Mrs. Garrett's 1st Grade

1st Grade Parent Letter

Hello Parents! smiley

Make sure all homework and projects are turned in on the assigned date.  All assignments are placed on the website in advanced to avoid late work.

In Math we are working on Related Subtraction and Addition Facts, Fact Families, Doubles, Sums up to 20, and Double Facts.  Lately I’ve noticed some students drawing marks or counting on their fingers…this is an absolute no.  I taught students to “count on”, and recently they’ve learned new methods to find the sum of a problem.  Do not allow your child to count on his or her fingers or draw marks when completing homework. At the beginning of the year I asked that you purchase addition and subtraction flash cards, if you have not please do so. In addition to subtraction and addition we will be counting coins and telling time to the half hour.

Send your child to school with a healthy snack daily; twinkies, honey buns, chocolate doughnuts ect. are not acceptable.  A sugary snack makes it very difficult for students to settle down and concentrate.

Please feel free to contact me via email @ ebonie.garrett@gmail.com.

Thanks,

Mrs. Ebonie Garrett, M.Ed

Pay attention to your child’s name.
